Print a large image on A4 paper

A4 poster printing is the simplest way to build a large poster on a home printer outside North America. Split your image into multiple A4 pages, choose rows and columns, and export a PDF that prints at the correct size.

Common A4 poster grids

A4 measures 210×297 mm. A 2×2 portrait grid uses 4 sheets (~420×594 mm). A 3×3 grid uses 9 sheets (~630×891 mm), close to a 24×36 in poster.

Portrait A4 tiles are the best default for predictable wall proportions. Landscape is useful when the image is naturally wide.

Print settings that matter

Disable Fit to page / Shrink to fit in your printer dialog. Those options change tile size and make assembly harder.

Window-pane mode is easier for first-time assembly; seamless mode gives cleaner edges after trimming overlaps.

  1. Choose an A4 grid that matches the poster size you want, such as 2×2, 3×3, or 4×3.
