Print at actual size (100% scale)

Tiled posters only line up when every page prints at true size. If your printer driver scales pages to "Fit to page," the final poster will be the wrong dimensions and edges will not match.

Why 100% scale is non-negotiable

Tiled layouts assume each printed page is exactly the target paper size. If the driver shrinks pages to fit, gaps appear at seams and the final poster is smaller than designed.

Every major browser and OS print dialog hides scaling under different labels — this guide lists the common ones.

After printing

Stack pages in label order before taping. Compare adjacent edges — they should meet with only the intended overlap visible.

If sheets are consistently too small, reprint with scaling disabled. If one edge is cropped, adjust margins or overlap in SmartPrint and export again.

Step by step

  1. Export your tiled PDF from SmartPrint.
  2. Open it in Chrome, Edge, Safari, or your system PDF viewer.
  3. In the print dialog, disable "Fit to page" / "Shrink to fit."
  4. Select "Actual size," "100%," or "Scale: 100%" depending on the app.
  5. Print all pages, then assemble using tile labels and overlap guides.

Pro tips

  • In Chrome, choose “Actual size” or set Scale to 100% — not “Fit to page.”
  • On macOS Preview, disable “Scale to fit” in the print dialog.
  • Save your print settings as a preset if your driver supports it for repeat projects.

Common questions

My printer still shrinks pages — what now?

Look for borderless or margin settings. Some drivers apply auto-fit when margins are too large. Try standard margins plus overlap in SmartPrint.

Can I print from a PDF app on mobile?

Mobile print dialogs often force fit-to-page. For tiled posters, use a desktop browser or transfer the PDF to a computer first.
